IOMEGA LDHD-UP2 DRIVER - A typical power adapter takes the AC power from your wall outlet and converts it to the DC power necessary for the internal. Hi, I have a pretty new iomega LDHD-UP2 external hard drive with very few hours on it that stopped working properly. The only thing that might have happened is physical movement / vibrations. It wasn't dropped or banged hard or anything, but it certainly wasn't overvolted or anything like that. I believe it is a 2TB hard drive if I remember correctly. When I hook it up, I can hear it spinning for a second or two and then quitting, as though it hasn't found the next step of recognition to keep going. It makes maybe half a dozen attempts and then just says 'screw it' and goes silent. I removed it from its enclosure and plugged it into an Aluratek docking station. When I turned it on, it does the exact same thing. Any ideas / solutions? Thanks for your time. If I can add one detail that may or may not help, with regard to the likelihood of there being head damage on this drive. I am almost certain that it was never even moved, much less dropped, WHILE RUNNING. The only times it was moved or subject to any sort of physical stress or possible impact is while no power was running to it. From my readings, this at least reduces the likelihood of a head crash where the original contact causes exponential damage from the debris of the original crash while the head is spinning. Could these faint buzzing startup attempts be symptomatic of anything else? Could the fact that there was definitely no physical movement of the drive while the head was spinning suggest that it a more replaceable or fixable part is involved? And that if there is head damage, it could be limited to one or very few sectors? When I hook it up, I can hear it spinning for a second or two and then quitting, as though it hasn't found the next step of recognition to keep going. It makes maybe half a dozen attempts and then just says 'screw it' and goes silent. The drive is not able to read the SA track or the servo track most of the time its either a bad head or corruption in the firmware or damaged sectors in the SA track. Non of those are DIY The ONLY DIY option you have is to replace the pcb and you don't have the tools and skills to move the rom chip so send your board to one of the board vendors that will move it for you. I really don't think this will 'FIX' the drive but its less than $ 100.00 for the board rom swap service shipping etc. I am sure you have already found them on Google searches Ok thats ALL I have to offer my first post should have sealed the deal if you need the data send to a pro otherwise you cant 'fix' the drive only recover the data. If you need a drive go buy another one! You didn't offend anyone! I am just an old grumpy man! Some days are better others not so much:) Your posts seem to imply you have other 'options' due to all the reading etc. I am surprised you haven't put it in the freezer a LOT of people think that urban myth along with the shaking baby trick will 'fix' the drive and maybe.0001 percent have had some short term success most of the rest does way more damage once was a drive that 'could' be recovered is no longer a recoverable drive. I still don't understand your goal it seems you think you can get it working again and continue to 'use' it. That's the farthest thing from what will and has happen than I can type into words. I just HATE!!! Being the guy that tells you the rods in your engine just got thrown and the motor is shot and needs to be re-built that is the better analogy I can come up with at the moment. The PCB option exists if you want to throw $$ at that attempt. Billa 2009 movie hindi dubbed. Let us know what you decide it sometimes helps others that 'search the forum' and 'read' like you have to see what others have ran into and the outcome.
